The Ghana Airports Company Limited has announced that the ongoing renovation works at the terminal two of the Accra International Airport are scheduled for completion by December 2026. The $15 million project is aimed at transforming the terminal into a modern facility capable of handling both domestic and international flights. The completion of this project will help ease congestion at Terminal three and also improving overall passenger experience.
According to the Ghana Airports Company Limited, the renovation will include structural upgrades to walls, floors, ceilings and leakages alongside the installation of new passenger facilities such as concourses and bridges that will connect terminals two and three for seamless transit. Technology integration will also be a major feature with improved systems for check in, security and baggage handling to meet international standards.
The strategic importance of this project lies in it potential to position Ghana as a leading aviation hub in West Africa. The Ghana Airports Company Limited aims to reduce the reliance on terminal three and enhance operational efficiency by repurposing terminal two into a dual purpose facility. The Government has assured strict supervision to ensure contractors meet deadlines. The project is funded and sustain through the Airport Development Levy.
Once completed, the renovated terminal will not only boost of tourism and trade but also strengthen the role of Ghana in aviation and economic growth. In addition this will also position Accra as a stronger aviation hub in West Africa.
