Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has officially launched the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation, a new philanthropic initiative aimed at discovering and developing the next generation of African music talent while expanding professional opportunities across the continent’s creative industry.

The announcement marks a significant step by the internationally acclaimed singer to support emerging creatives behind the scenes of the music industry, including songwriters, producers, sound engineers and music business professionals. The initiative is also backed by a collaboration with Berklee College of Music, one of the world’s most respected institutions for contemporary music education.

The foundation was unveiled with a vision to strengthen Africa’s rapidly growing music ecosystem by providing education, mentorship and industry exposure to young creatives who often struggle to access professional training and global networks. Savage said the idea behind the initiative was shaped by her own experiences navigating the global music industry and recognizing that the success of artists depends on a much wider network of professionals working behind the scenes.

According to details released during the launch, the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation will focus on talent discovery and development programmes designed to support promising African musicians and industry professionals. Through workshops, mentorship opportunities and scholarships, the foundation aims to equip participants with the technical skills and business knowledge needed to build sustainable careers in music.

The partnership with Berklee College of Music is expected to play a central role in the foundation’s educational mission. Berklee has a long history of collaborating with artists and institutions around the world to nurture musical talent, and its programmes have produced globally recognized musicians, composers and producers across multiple genres.

Through the collaboration, selected participants in the foundation’s programmes will gain access to training resources, masterclasses and educational opportunities connected to Berklee’s global music network. Industry professionals affiliated with the institution may also contribute mentorship and guidance to participants in the foundation’s development initiatives.

Savage, who has built a reputation as one of Africa’s most influential music figures, said the foundation is meant to shift attention toward the wider ecosystem that sustains the music industry. While artists often receive the spotlight, she noted that the success of a global music movement relies on many skilled professionals including producers, engineers, managers, writers and visual creatives.

The Afrobeats genre, which Savage has helped popularize internationally, has experienced rapid global growth over the past decade. Artists from Nigeria, Ghana and other African countries have gained significant traction across streaming platforms, international festivals and major record labels. Global demand for African music has surged as audiences around the world embrace the sound’s energetic rhythms and cross cultural appeal.

Savage herself has played a key role in this expansion. Over the years she has collaborated with global artists, performed on major international stages and released chart topping songs that helped introduce Afrobeats to new audiences. Her work has earned multiple awards and nominations, cementing her status as one of the leading figures in contemporary African music.

Industry analysts say the creation of the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation could help address a long standing gap in the African music industry by supporting talent development beyond performing artists. Many aspiring professionals in areas such as production, sound engineering and music management often lack access to formal training or international mentorship.

By partnering with a globally recognized institution like Berklee, the initiative could provide participants with valuable insights into the structure of the global music industry while helping African creatives connect with international opportunities.

The launch of the foundation also reflects a broader trend in which successful African artists are investing in initiatives aimed at nurturing new talent and strengthening the continent’s creative industries. As African music continues to gain worldwide recognition, many industry leaders believe building sustainable infrastructure for talent development will be critical to maintaining the genre’s long term growth.

In addition to education and mentorship, the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation plans to create platforms where emerging artists and professionals can showcase their work to international audiences. These initiatives may include collaborative projects, industry showcases and partnerships with music organizations across Africa and beyond.

Supporters of the initiative say it has the potential to open new pathways for African creatives who may otherwise struggle to access the resources needed to succeed in a highly competitive global industry.

For Savage, the foundation represents an opportunity to give back to the creative community that shaped her career while ensuring that future generations of African music professionals have access to opportunities that were once difficult to obtain.
