The Black Stars technical team, led by head coach Otto Addo, visited the Greater Accra Regional Hospital on Monday, February 16, 2026 to make a donation to the maternity ward as part of their ongoing social responsibility efforts and community engagement. The visit reflects the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) commitment to giving back to society while preparing the national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Accompanying Otto Addo on the visit was GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, along with assistant coaches Desmond Ofei, Kim Lars Björkegren, Alain Ravera, and technical advisor Winfried Schaefer. Also present were the technical team’s Chief of Staff Michael Osekre and Director of Communications Henry Asante Twum. The group spent meaningful time with hospital staff, new mothers and caregivers at the facility, strengthening bonds between the Black Stars leadership and community members.

The donation, made on behalf of the technical team and the Ghana Football Association, was directed to the hospital’s maternity ward to support the wellbeing of new mothers and newborns. While the exact amount was not disclosed, the contribution was warmly received by the hospital administration and staff, highlighting a shared focus on improving healthcare outcomes for mothers and children in the region.

We really, really appreciate what this institution is doing for the people here in Accra. And we know that there are many people who even can’t afford a lot of things.”

President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku also spoke during the outreach, reiterating the GFA’s commitment to community engagement and encouraging public support for the hospital. He emphasized the importance of recognising the dedication of health workers and called on individuals and organisations to support the facility, noting that no contribution is too small to help improve healthcare delivery for mothers and babies.

The Greater Accra Regional Hospital, formerly known as Ridge Hospital, is one of the major medical facilities in the capital, providing critical services to a wide population of patients. Its maternity ward plays a pivotal role in offering maternal and neonatal care, and support from prominent institutions like the Ghana Football Association underscores the importance of cross-sector partnerships in strengthening public health systems.

The technical team’s visit to the hospital also served as an opportunity for personal interaction with the staff and patients. Members of the delegation spoke with caregivers and offered encouragement, creating a positive atmosphere that blended goodwill with the Black Stars’ broader mission of fostering community ties.

Otto Addo and his technical crew are currently in Ghana to scout players in the Ghana Premier League and other domestic competitions as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup scheduled to take place in Canada, Mexico and the United States later this year. The national team is also scheduled to play international friendly matches against Austria and Germany in March, further intensifying the team’s build-up towards the tournament.

The hospital donation and outreach activities highlight the Black Stars’ dedication not only to football excellence but also to social responsibility and community engagement. By leveraging their influence and platform, the team continues to reinforce the positive impact of sport beyond the pitch, inspiring others to support critical causes and uplift local communities.

Overall, this compassionate gesture demonstrates how sports institutions like the Ghana Football Association and the Black Stars technical team are contributing to public health and social welfare, enhancing their role as national ambassadors both on and off the field.
