KNUST confirms death of 2nd-year student following off-campus incident

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has confirmed the death of a second-year student following an off-campus incident that occurred over the weekend.

In a press release dated February 9, 2026, the university said it received with deep sadness news of the passing of Mr. Ransford Amankwah Asomani, a Level 200 student pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness Management.

According to preliminary reports, Mr. Asomani fell from the second floor of an off-campus hostel located at Ayeduase in the early hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026. He was immediately rushed to the KNUST Hospital by his colleagues with support from the KNUST District Police Patrol Team but was pronounced dead on arrival.

University authorities said the deceased’s parents have been formally informed, and his body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

Management of the university expressed profound sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family as well as members of the university community.

“The Management is deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident and extends heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Ransford Amankwah Asomani and the entire University community,” the statement said.

KNUST also confirmed that investigations have commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The KNUST Police, working in collaboration with the university’s security services, are leading the inquiry, and management has assured the public that further updates will be provided once all relevant facts are established.

The university reaffirmed its commitment to the safety, security, and well-being of students and staff.
