President Mahama commissions High Commissioner and 4 Ambassadors to represent Ghana abroad

President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned one High Commissioner and four Ambassadors-designate to represent Ghana internationally, in a ceremony held at Jubilee House on February 9, 2026, in line with Article 74(1) of the Constitution. The Envoys took the Oaths of Allegiance, Office, and Secrecy before assuming their diplomatic duties.

The Envoys commissioned include:

  • Alhaji Said Saleh Sinare – Ambassador-designate to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • Lt. Col. Al Hajj Umar Sanda Ahmed – Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Mali
  • Mr. Kofi Attor – Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Cuba
  • Mr. Emmanuel Opeku – Ambassador-in-situ
  • Mrs. Regina Appiah-Sam – High Commissioner-designate to the Republic of Malta

In his address, President Mahama emphasised the evolving international landscape, shaped by geopolitical tensions, economic realignments, technological disruptions, and climate pressures. He tasked the Envoys to prioritise Ghana’s national interest and to use their positions to drive economic growth through diplomacy.

He highlighted the importance of Key Performance Indicators for Heads of Mission, urging them to actively promote tourism, attract strategic investments, facilitate innovation, create jobs, expand trade, and establish sustainable partnerships. The President also called for accountability and measurable results in all diplomatic engagements.

On behalf of the Envoys, Lt. Col. Al Hajj Umar Sanda Ahmed, Ambassador-designate to Mali, expressed gratitude to the President and pledged to serve Ghana with patriotism, diligence, and commitment, ensuring the nation’s reputation is positively reflected abroad.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Chief of Staff Hon. Julius Debrah, Deputy Chief of Staff Hon. Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, and other dignitaries.
