Bawumia sweeps through Eastern Region constituencies Akwatia Kade and Asene-Manso-Akroso

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is attracting strong grassroots backing in the Eastern Region as he intensifies his campaign ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries. For several days, he has been meeting delegates and supporters across the region, and the momentum grew even stronger on Sunday when he visited Kade, Akwatia, Asene Manso Akroso and Lower West Akim. In all four constituencies, local executives, MPs and former parliamentary aspirants openly affirmed their support for his flagbearer bid.

Party leaders described the wave of endorsements as a clear reflection of the delegates’ preference, adding that Dr Bawumia remains the party’s most competitive candidate for the 2028 general elections. In Akwatia, he was welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd, and the constituency chairman expressed confidence that delegates would deliver an even larger margin than before. He recalled that Dr Bawumia secured about 68% of their votes two years ago and projected the figure could rise to about 86%, citing his work ethic, message and commitment.

The parliamentary candidate from the recent Akwatia by-election also pledged the constituency’s full support, pointing to the significant assistance received from Dr Bawumia during the campaign. Former MP Ama Sey urged delegates to remain consistent in their support, stressing that Ghanaians rarely favour abrupt changes and that nationwide feedback suggests strong grassroots enthusiasm for Bawumia’s candidacy.

In Kade, Dr Bawumia was met with chants of loyalty. The constituency chairman noted that Kade has long supported him and encouraged polling station executives, coordinators and local leaders to vote massively on January 31. A similar atmosphere greeted him in Asene Manso Akroso, where Constituency Chairman Kojo Effah led supporters in chanting messages of solidarity. He assured Dr Bawumia that the constituency was fully committed to helping him secure victory in the primaries and ultimately lead the country.

As the NPP’s January 31 primaries approach, the steady rise in endorsements across the Eastern Region signals growing confidence among party grassroots in Dr Bawumia’s bid for the leadership.
