Children of Konadu Agyeman Rawlings say she never received the recognition she deserved

The children of the late Konadu Agyeman Rawlings have delivered a deeply emotional tribute to their mother during a memorial event held in her honour. They described her as a woman of exceptional strength, discipline and compassion who dedicated most of her life to serving the nation and supporting the welfare of women and children.
In their tribute, they stated that although their mother played a significant role in shaping national policies and leading social development initiatives, she did not receive the full recognition she deserved while alive. They expressed that her contributions were sometimes overshadowed by political disagreements, but her work had a lasting impact that cannot be erased.
Her children remembered her as a determined woman who believed strongly in national progress. They recalled how she spent long hours planning community programs, mentoring young women, responding to social issues and advocating for policy reforms. They also highlighted her passion for education, health and child protection.
According to them, she was a strict but loving mother who demanded excellence and commitment from her children. They shared personal stories about her resilience during challenging moments in national politics. Even when public pressure mounted, she remained firm and continued to work for the betterment of society.
The children also reflected on the sacrifices she made as a public figure. They said she often put the needs of others before her own comfort and maintained a strong sense of discipline both in public and private life. They emphasized that she raised them to value leadership, integrity and compassion.
Many attendees were moved by the tribute. Several women’s groups, political leaders and community representatives acknowledged that her activism and leadership shaped their personal journeys. They praised her role in establishing community programs that uplifted women and supported vulnerable groups.
The tribute concluded with a message of appreciation to Ghanaians for supporting the family during their period of mourning. Her children said they hope the nation will continue to honour her legacy by promoting women’s empowerment, social justice and community development.
They stated that although she has passed on, her influence lives through the countless individuals she helped and the institutions she strengthened. According to them, Ghana lost a national treasure whose work deserves continuous celebration.
