Security analyst criticizes timing of GAF offer to families of deceased recruits
A security analyst has questioned the timing of the Ghana Armed Forces decision to offer automatic recruitment slots to families of victims who died during the tragic recruitment stampede. According to him, although the gesture may have good intentions, it is premature and may send the wrong public message.
The analyst explained that the country is still mourning the lives lost and investigations into the incident are ongoing. In his view, it would have been more appropriate for authorities to focus first on providing psychological support, compensation, and clear communication regarding the cause of the tragedy before making recruitment related announcements.
He warned that decisions taken during emotionally charged moments can be misinterpreted, possibly leading some to view the offer as an attempt to deflect responsibility or calm public outrage. Instead, he recommends a systematic approach that prioritizes transparency, accountability, and long term support for affected families.
Families of the victims remain traumatized, and many continue to demand a full inquiry into the circumstances that led to the deadly incident. Civil society organizations have also called for comprehensive reforms in recruitment protocols to prevent future occurrences.
Despite the mixed reactions, the Ghana Armed Forces maintains that the offer is a compassionate gesture meant to honor the memory of the deceased. However, the security analyst insists that healing, justice, and clarity must come before recruitment offers.
