Ato Forson says President Mahama will not be in office when the new presidential jet arrives

The Minority Leader Dr Ato Forson has stated that President Mahama will not be in office by the time the newly proposed presidential aircraft arrives, describing the procurement process as unnecessary and poorly timed. According to him, the timeline for acquiring the jet extends far beyond the current administration’s expected term of service.
He argued that government must prioritize urgent national needs such as health care, education, and infrastructure instead of spending millions on a new aircraft. In his view the decision signals misplaced priorities at a time when many citizens are struggling with economic challenges and rising cost of living.
Dr Forson further questioned the transparency of the procurement process, demanding detailed disclosure on cost, funding sources, contractual obligations, and delivery timelines. He reiterated that major public procurements must reflect the interests of the entire nation rather than the preferences of a sitting administration.
His comments have intensified national debate over the relevance of purchasing a new presidential jet. Critics argue that existing aircraft can continue to serve with proper maintenance, while supporters claim that a new jet is essential for safety and efficiency of presidential travel.
As public discussions continue, Dr Forson insists that the matter must be re examined thoroughly in Parliament to ensure accountability and protect national funds.
