Ghana’s Minority Gives Government Two Weeks to Investigate Fatal Armed Forces Recruitment Tragedy

Ghana’s Minority in Parliament has issued a strong ultimatum to the government, demanding answers within two weeks following the tragic deaths of six young Ghanaians during a Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
The Minority described the incident as a national tragedy that could have been avoided with better planning and proper crowd management. According to the Minority Leader, the government must take full responsibility for the loss of lives and ensure a transparent and credible investigation to uncover what led to the deadly stampede.
The opposition bloc in Parliament insists that the government must not only determine the cause of the incident but also hold accountable those whose negligence may have contributed to the disaster. They further called for the immediate suspension of all ongoing recruitment exercises until comprehensive safety measures are implemented.
The Minority also demanded that the investigation be concluded within 14 days and that its findings be made public. They emphasized that the recruitment process must be restructured to include safer methods such as online registration, scheduled attendance, and the use of approved venues equipped with medical support.
The tragedy, which occurred during a highly anticipated recruitment exercise, has reignited debate about youth unemployment, public safety, and the growing desperation among young Ghanaians seeking stable employment. Many have questioned the preparedness of the organizers and the lack of emergency response systems during the exercise.

Families of the victims continue to mourn their loved ones as the nation demands justice. Civil society groups and human rights advocates have joined calls for accountability and reform, urging authorities to ensure that such a preventable tragedy never occurs again.
The Minority’s two-week deadline to the government is seen as a test of its commitment to transparency, responsibility, and respect for human life. As investigations begin, the country watches closely, hoping that real reforms and justice will follow the sorrow of this national loss.
