TVET Service Suspends Heads of 3 Institutes Over Unapproved Fee Collection

The Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service has suspended the heads of three technical institutes for allegedly collecting unapproved fees from students, violating established financial and administrative regulations.
The affected institutions include the Asuansi Technical Institute, Tamale Technical Institute, and Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC). According to a statement issued by the TVET Service, the decision follows an internal investigation that uncovered the unauthorized collection of various fees not sanctioned by the Service or the Ministry of Education.
The statement emphasized that the act constitutes a breach of government directives on fee charges in public educational institutions and warned that such practices undermine the integrity and affordability of technical and vocational education in Ghana.
The suspended officials have been directed to step aside immediately to allow for further investigations, while interim management teams have been appointed to ensure the smooth running of academic and administrative activities at the affected schools.

The TVET Service reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability across all its institutions, stressing that it will not hesitate to take disciplinary action against any individual or unit found culpable of financial misconduct.
This development comes amid government efforts to enhance access to TVET education as part of the broader skills development and industrialization agenda.
