Drastic Curfew Imposed in Bawku to Curb Unrest

In a decisive move to restore calm and enhance public safety, the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), has announced a revision of the curfew hours for Bawku Municipality and its surrounding communities in the Upper East Region.
Acting on the advice of the Upper East Regional Security Council and under the authority of an Executive Instrument, the curfew is now set from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily, effective from Sunday, July 27, 2025, and remains in force until further notice.
The Ministry is urging residents particularly Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, and the youth to remain calm and resolve conflicts through peaceful and non-violent means. The government acknowledges the difficult circumstances in the area and encourages unity and dialogue as tools for lasting peace.
In addition, a total ban on the possession and use of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons remains in place within the Bawku Municipality and its environs. Any individual found violating this directive will face arrest and prosecution.
The government reiterates its commitment to working with local stakeholders to ensure the safety and stability of the region.
