    Ghana’s education sector is set for a significant boost as the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has revealed plans by the government to recruit 50,000 new teachers and 10,000 non-teaching staff in the 2025 calendar year.

    The announcement comes as part of the government’s broader strategy to address the country’s growing student population and bridge the teacher-to-student ratio gap in both urban and rural areas.

    Boosting Education Delivery Across Ghana

    Speaking to the media, the Education Minister said the recruitment exercise is expected to enhance educational outcomes across basic and secondary school levels while also creating new job opportunities for trained educators and school support staff.

    “This recruitment will support our agenda to provide quality education across the country and ensure no child is left behind due to a lack of teachers or administrative support,” Haruna Iddrisu noted.

    The Minister explained that the initiative will cover various subject areas, including science, mathematics, ICT, and special education. Non-teaching staff to be recruited will include administrative officers, laboratory technicians, school health coordinators, and maintenance personnel.

    Addressing Sectoral Gaps

    This recruitment drive is part of the government’s broader effort to modernise the education sector, ensure inclusive learning environments, and strengthen school management systems.

    According to sector analysts, Ghana has grappled with a growing number of unemployed trained teachers and overburdened classrooms in recent years, with some rural areas lacking sufficient qualified educators.

    If fully implemented, the 2025 recruitment will be one of the largest in the history of Ghana’s education system, and signals the government’s renewed commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 – inclusive and equitable quality education for all.

    Further details on application procedures and timelines are expected to be communicated by the Ghana Education Service in the coming months.
