“Insinuating I tried to influence you is unfair” – Gyampo responds to Agyebeng
Professor Ransford Gyampo, Acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, has strongly rejected allegations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that he attempted to interfere in its operations during a recent raid on Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).
In a statement issued on June 22, 2025, Prof. Gyampo described the OSP’s insinuations as “unfair and misleading,” asserting that his interaction with officials during the raid was purely professional and did not constitute any form of interference or pressure.
Background to the Dispute
The disagreement stems from an operation carried out by the OSP at the offices of SML, a company under investigation for alleged corruption and procurement breaches in contracts with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, reportedly cited Gyampo’s presence at the SML premises during the enforcement exercise as an attempt to exert influence—an allegation Gyampo has now publicly disputed.
Gyampo’s Clarification
Gyampo, who also serves as a senior political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, stated:
“It is unfair to insinuate that I tried to influence anyone. My presence was coincidental, and I engaged the officers respectfully, without obstructing their duties.”
He emphasized that he had no personal or institutional interest in the matter under investigation and questioned the motives behind the OSP’s public claims.
OSP’s Response Pending
As of now, the Office of the Special Prosecutor has not issued a formal response to Gyampo’s rebuttal. However, the exchange has stirred public debate on the limits of public commentary during ongoing investigations, especially when high-profile individuals are involved.
The incident adds to the growing list of public figures clashing with the OSP, which has recently intensified its anti-corruption drive with high-profile cases, including that of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and other senior officials.
