Ghana international Baba Rahman has strongly criticised the state of football pitches in the country, calling them a national embarrassment. The PAOK defender expressed his frustration over the poor conditions Ghanaian players are forced to endure, revealing that even teammates in Europe tease him about it.

“It’s Honestly a National Disgrace” – Baba Rahman Speaks Out

In an interview with Joy Sports, Rahman didn’t hold back his disappointment. “You go back to your club after international duty, and your teammates mock the country because of the pitches we play on. It’s honestly a national disgrace,” he said.

The former Chelsea left-back highlighted how the poor infrastructure is not just hurting player performance but damaging Ghana’s image internationally. His comments come on the back of widespread backlash over the state of the pitch during the 2025 MTN FA Cup final, held at the University of Ghana Stadium.

A Call for Urgent Change

Rahman believes the current situation calls for immediate and practical solutions. “This is a serious issue that needs urgent attention. Let’s at least ensure the national team has a proper pitch to play on,” he urged.

While acknowledging the challenge of maintaining quality pitches in Ghana’s tropical climate, Rahman insisted that should not be an excuse for inaction. “I understand the weather makes pitch maintenance difficult, but we still need to make the effort.”

He called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to prioritise infrastructure, not just for the senior national team but for youth and women’s football as well.

Rahman’s message adds to growing pressure on authorities to invest in facilities that reflect Ghana’s status as one of Africa’s football powerhouses.
