Renowned gospel musician Empress Gifty has filed a defamation lawsuit against self-styled evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, demanding a staggering GH₵20 million in damages.

The suit, filed at the Accra High Court, alleges that Agradaa made false and damaging statements against Empress Gifty in a series of social media broadcasts. According to court documents, these comments have significantly harmed the singer’s reputation, personal life, and brand image.

Allegations and Legal Demands

Empress Gifty is seeking general damages of GH₵10 million, aggravated damages of GH₵5 million, and punitive damages amounting to GH₵5 million. She also demands a perpetual injunction to prevent Agradaa from making further defamatory remarks about her.

Her legal team argues that Agradaa’s statements were not only untrue but made with malicious intent to cause reputational damage and public ridicule. They further claim the videos went viral across social media platforms, attracting negative comments and affecting Empress Gifty’s engagements.

Public Reactions

While neither party has officially spoken to the media following the lawsuit, the case has drawn widespread attention on social media, where followers of both personalities have expressed varied opinions.

Legal analysts suggest that the outcome of this case could set a precedent in how high-profile defamation suits involving public figures and social media are handled in Ghana.
