No Casualties Recorded in Sunday’s Flooding – NADMO

Swift Response Helped Contain Disaster, Says NADMO

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has confirmed that no casualties were recorded following Sunday’s torrential rains that led to widespread flooding in parts of Accra and other urban centres.

In a press briefing on Monday morning, NADMO’s Director of Communications, George Ayisi, stated that although several homes and roads were submerged, early warning systems, swift emergency responses, and community cooperation helped avert loss of lives.

“We’re grateful to report that there were no fatalities or major injuries. Our teams were on the ground before, during, and after the rains to ensure affected residents were safely evacuated and supported,” Mr. Ayisi said.

Several Communities Affected

The intense rainfall caused significant flooding in areas such as Kaneshie, Odorkor, Circle, and parts of East Legon. Motorists were stranded, and some homes were temporarily cut off. NADMO officials, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service, provided evacuation assistance and helped clear blocked drains.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and avoid building in waterways. The Meteorological Department has also cautioned that more rains are expected in the coming days.

NADMO says it is working closely with local assemblies to strengthen flood resilience and improve early warning systems in high-risk zones.
