Ghana Water Limited to Venture into Bottled Water Production – MD Adam Mutawakilu

State Utility Eyes Commercial Expansion

The Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Adam Mutawakilu, has announced plans by the state utility company to begin producing bottled water as part of efforts to diversify its operations and enhance revenue streams.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Mr. Mutawakilu stated that the company is exploring commercial opportunities that align with its core mandate while helping to meet rising consumer demand for safe and clean drinking water. “We are moving to producing bottled water,” he disclosed, adding that feasibility studies and preparatory groundwork are already underway.

A Strategic Shift to Boost Sustainability

This move comes amid increased pressure on public water utilities to innovate and become financially self-sustaining. Mr. Mutawakilu emphasised that the venture into the bottled water market will not compromise the company’s primary responsibility of supplying potable water to households and institutions across the country.

He further noted that the initiative will contribute to employment generation and serve as a benchmark for future public-private sector partnerships in Ghana’s water and sanitation sector.
