In a rather bizarre turn of events, the Paramount Chief of Anfoega Traditional Area, Togbe Hodo, has banned, with immediate effect, all activities of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in his traditional area.
Chief’s Discontent with Presidential Nominee
The chief’s decision stems from dissatisfaction with President John Dramani Mahama’s choice of District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee for the North Dayi District. Togbe Hodo reportedly felt disrespected after recommending Madam Solace Dzeble for the position, only for the President to overlook her and nominate Mr. Ernest Adevoh instead.
Sub Chiefs Barred from DCE Confirmation Vote
In protest, Togbe Hodo banned two sub-chiefs—appointees of the North Dayi District Assembly—from participating in meeting the confirmation vote of the President’s nominee. The directive was seen as a power move to show disapproval of the process.
Ernest Adevoh Confirmed Despite Boycott
Despite the boycott, the confirmation of Mr. Ernest Adevoh proceeded without hindrance. The nominee secured 30 out of 32 votes, making his confirmation a resounding success. In his acceptance speech, the newly sworn-in DCE pledged to work diligently to serve all constituents.
MP Vows to Mend Relations and Focus on Development
MP for the area, Hon. Joycelyn Quashie, acknowledged the chief’s boycott but emphasized the importance of collaboration with traditional leaders. She pledged to engage Togbe Hodo, whom she referred to as her father, to resolve tensions amicably. She also promised to work closely with the DCE to drive development in North Dayi in alignment with the President’s RESET agenda.
NDC Executives Attend Confirmation Ceremony
The confirmation event was attended by high-ranking NDC officials, including the Regional Minister, Regional Chairman, Regional Women Organizer, and several deputy executives. Their presence signaled the importance of the occasion despite the controversy surrounding the chief’s decision.
