This leadership change follows the remarkable tenure of co-founder David Gowu, who successfully led the institute for eight years. With extensive experience in ICT development, Richard Kafui Amanfu is set to usher IIPGH into a new era of innovationgrowth, and impact.

Richard Kafui Amanfu’s Professional Background

With over 16 years of experience in the ICT and telecommunications industry, Richard is a seasoned technology consultant who has held multiple technical and managerial roles across the West African market.

  • Education: He holds an MBA in Project Management from GIMPA and a Bachelor of Arts in Information Studies from the University of Ghana, equipping him with the knowledge and skills to lead complex ICT projects and strategies.

Leadership Journey at IIPGH

Since joining IIPGH in 2017 as one of its founding members, Richard has been at the heart of numerous high-impact projects designed to bridge Ghana’s digital skills gap.

Key Achievements:

  • Mobilizing Over 2,500 ICT Professionals: Richard played a leading role in creating a nationwide network of experts dedicated to Ghana’s digital economy.
  • Capacity Building Programs: He spearheaded initiatives like the Cyber Security Awareness Initiative, the IIPGH Internship Program, and the Persons with Disability Initiative, equipping professionals, students, and businesses with vital digital skills.
  • Media Advocacy: Under his leadership, IIPGH has published over 350 technology articles in the Business and Financial Times (B&FT), driving national conversations on ICT development.
  • Coding Programs: Richard helped introduce coding lessons to over 10,000 young Ghanaians, ensuring the next generation is ready for future tech opportunities.

Before assuming the role of Executive Director, Richard served as Director of Operations at IIPGH and has worked with notable organizations like EricssonInternet Ghana LimitedGartner Inc, and Edulamp Ghana. His extensive experience has sharpened his strategic and technical expertise in ICT service deliveryoperations, and project management.

Honors and Recognition

Richard is a founding member of IIPGH, a Fellow of both the Ghana School on Internet Governance and the West Africa School on Internet Governance, a Senior Professional Member of the Institute of Information Management (IIM) Africa, and an active member of Internet Society (ISOC), Ghana Chapter.

As a prolific writer and advocate for technology education, Richard has authored numerous articles on digital skills developmentcybersecurity, and the future of work, solidifying his position as a thought leader in Ghana’s ICT community.

In 2025, IIPGH proudly celebrates its 8th anniversary under the theme “Transforming Lives Through ICT: 8 Years of Impact and Inspiration.”

    Midwifery Students Association (UGHANMSA), Deputy Head of the Business
    and Political Chamber of PENSA Legon, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of
    the Oti Region Students Association (ORSA), and a Member of the
    University of Ghana Parliament House.

    Over the years, he has led and supported numerous student-centered
    initiatives, including academic tutorials, mentorship programmes,
    welfare interventions, and advocacy campaigns aimed at improving the
    student experience and promoting collective growth.

    As an aspiring President of the University of Ghana Students'
    Representative Council (UGSRC) for the 2026/2027 academic year,
    Abraham seeks to champion a vision centered on student welfare,
    accountability, inclusiveness, innovation, and effective representation.
