Akpeteshie Seller Granted Bail After Testicle-Biting Altercation

In the Assin Foso Municipality in Ghana’s Central Region, a 43-year-old woman, Esi Affumwaa, has been granted bail by the Assin Fosu District Court after allegedly biting a customer’s testicle during a dispute over a GH¢2.40 debt.

The court, presided over by His Lordship Abdul Majid Iliasu, granted bail in the sum of GH¢10,000 with two sureties, one of whom must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case, which has drawn public attention due to its bizarre nature, unfolded at Assin Wurakese Camp on February 26, 2024, around 4:30 p.m.

Dispute Over Cigarette Debt Turns Violent

According to the prosecution, led by Inspector Matilda Osaah Buaben, the incident began when Karim Osman, a 36-year-old farmer, visited Affumwaa’s residence to buy a cigarette.

Osman owed GH¢2.40 from a previous purchase, and the dispute over this small amount quickly escalated into a heated argument. What started as a verbal confrontation soon turned physical, with both parties exchanging blows.

Prosecutors allege that Affumwaa struck Osman on the head with a piece of firewood, causing him to fall. During the scuffle, she allegedly bit his testicle, leading to severe bleeding and injury. Osman reported the incident to the police, resulting in Affumwaa’s arrest.

In court, Affumwaa pleaded guilty with an explanation, stating that she acted in self-defence. She claimed that Osman had caused her to fall during the altercation, leading her to retaliate.

However, Affumwaa denied biting Osman’s testicle. Instead, she claimed that she had only squeezed his testicle during the struggle.

Court Focuses on Community Peace and Further Investigations

The court adjourned the case to allow further investigations and legal proceedings to continue. His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu also stressed the need to maintain peace in the community while ensuring justice is served.

The incident has sparked discussions in Assin Wurakese Camp about the need for peaceful conflict resolution and the dangers of allowing minor disputes to escalate into violence.
