The Government of Ghana has announced the immediate temporary closure of the Accra International Conference Centre to allow for scheduled renovation works aimed at improving safety and ensuring the long-term functionality of the facility.

In a public notice issued on March 27, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ghana stated that the decision forms part of efforts to upgrade one of the country’s most important event venues, which has hosted major national and international conferences over the years.

According to the Ministry, the closure takes effect immediately, with no confirmed reopening date at this stage. Officials indicated that further updates will be communicated to the public once renovation works are completed or reach an advanced stage.

The Accra International Conference Centre has long served as a central hub for diplomatic events, corporate gatherings, cultural programmes and high-level government engagements. Its temporary shutdown is therefore expected to impact scheduled events, forcing organisers to seek alternative venues across the capital.

Authorities acknowledged the potential disruption but emphasised that the upgrade is necessary to maintain safety standards and modernise the facility in line with current infrastructure demands. The renovation is also expected to enhance the Centre’s capacity to host large-scale global events, positioning Ghana more competitively within the international conference and tourism space.

The Ministry apologised for any inconvenience caused to stakeholders, including event planners, businesses and the general public, while reiterating its commitment to delivering quality public service and infrastructure.
