The National Investment Bank (NIB) has donated GH¢1 million to support the Ghana Armed Forces’ housing redevelopment project, reinforcing private-sector engagement in national defence welfare initiatives.

The contribution was announced as part of broader efforts by local institutions to partner with government and military stakeholders in addressing critical infrastructure and living conditions for service personnel. Housing redevelopment has been a long-standing priority for the Armed Forces, aimed at improving living standards, boosting morale and making military service more attractive for both current members and recruits.

According to the report from Starr FM, the GH¢1 million donation will be channelled directly into ongoing redevelopment efforts, which include constructing modern residential units, renovating existing barracks and enhancing basic amenities across military communities. The project is intended to provide safe, sanitary and dignified accommodation for personnel and their families, helping to reduce overcrowding and outdated facilities that have persisted in some garrisons.

Representatives of NIB emphasised that the donation reflects the bank’s commitment to national development and corporate social responsibility. By supporting the Ghana Armed Forces’ housing project, the bank said it aims to contribute to broader social stability and the well-being of those serving the country.

Officials from the Armed Forces expressed appreciation for the support, noting that partnerships with financial institutions and the private sector help accelerate project timelines and expand resource mobilisation beyond government budgets alone.

“Infrastructure for our troops is not just a matter of bricks and mortar; it is about providing security, dignity and support to those who protect our sovereignty,” a military spokesperson said at the handover event.

The donation also aligns with recent initiatives encouraging private contributions to social and community infrastructure, especially in sectors where public funding is stretched. Ghana’s defence housing programme has been recognised as a key investment in human capital, and partnerships of this nature are seen as instrumental in making tangible progress.

As redevelopment continues, the Armed Forces and NIB said they will explore further collaboration opportunities, including skills training for construction labour drawn from military communities and financial literacy programmes for service members and their families.
