Parliament has approved an allocation of GH¢2.9 billion for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares) to support its operations in the 2026 fiscal year.
The funding is expected to strengthen the implementation of the Fund’s mandate, which focuses on providing financial assistance for critical healthcare needs and expanding access to medical support for vulnerable populations. Lawmakers approved the allocation as part of the broader budgetary process aimed at improving healthcare delivery nationwide.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Cares, is designed to complement existing healthcare financing mechanisms by targeting specific medical conditions and bridging funding gaps that often prevent patients from accessing timely treatment.
With the new allocation, the Fund is anticipated to scale up interventions, enhance coverage, and ensure more sustainable support for beneficiaries across the country.
