Ghana has signed a US$12.83 million grant agreement with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to finance feasibility studies for key infrastructure and development projects under the government’s flagship Big Push programme.
The agreement was signed earlier today by the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, marking a critical step toward preparing several high-impact projects for construction.
The projects covered under the grant include a proposed interchange at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, as well as the redevelopment of major markets across the country. These markets include Agbogbloshie Market in Accra, Techiman Market in the Bono East Region, Sekondi Market in the Western Region, and Mankessim Market in the Central Region.

In addition, the funding will support preparatory work for Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZs) planned for the Afram Plains, Nsawam, and Builsa.
According to Dr Forson, the AfDB grant will be used to carry out detailed feasibility studies for all the selected projects. These studies will cover full engineering designs, cost estimates, and comprehensive environmental and social impact assessments, ensuring that each project meets technical, financial, and regulatory requirements before construction begins.
He noted that completing these studies promptly is essential to enable a smooth transition into the construction phase and accelerate delivery under the Big Push programme, which aims to drive economic growth, job creation, and regional development through large-scale public investments.

The Finance Minister expressed appreciation to the African Development Bank and its Country Manager, Eyerusalem Fasika, for their continued partnership and support for Ghana’s development agenda.
Dr Forson said the government’s objective is to complete the feasibility studies early enough to allow construction works to commence in the near term, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to infrastructure-led growth.
