Dr. Bawumia Receives Huge Welcome in Wa as Northern Campaign Tour Begins

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President and prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received an overwhelming welcome when he arrived in Wa to kick off his multi-day political and community engagement tour across the northern part of Ghana. His arrival drew a massive crowd of party loyalists, youth groups, community elders, and traders who poured onto the streets to show support for his leadership bid ahead of the party’s upcoming selection processes.

The atmosphere in Wa was electrifying. Supporters dressed in NPP colours, waving flags and chanting campaign slogans, followed his convoy from the outskirts of the town to the city center. Motorbike riders and enthusiastic youth groups trailed behind his vehicle, creating a vibrant and celebratory scene that resembled a mini-festival.

Dr. Bawumia’s first stop was Wechiau in the Wa West Constituency, where he held a community meeting with local delegates, traditional authorities, and party executives. He used the platform to reaffirm his commitment to deepening development in northern Ghana and strengthening the NPP’s grassroots structures. He acknowledged the passionate support shown and emphasized that the region remains pivotal to the party’s growth and national political strategy.

From Wechiau, the former Vice President continued to Wa Central, where large numbers of supporters had already gathered waiting to meet him. In his remarks, he highlighted progress made in previous years under his leadership roles and indicated key areas he hopes to champion—such as technological advancement, job creation, agriculture modernization, and equitable access to development across all regions.

Dr. Bawumia’s tour in Wa also aimed to boost morale within the regional party base, especially as the NPP prepares for key internal elections and future national contests. The northern visit forms part of a larger national outreach effort that has recently taken him across several regions, engaging delegates, civil society leaders, entrepreneurs, and community groups.

His team indicated that after concluding engagements in the Upper West Region, Dr. Bawumia will proceed to the Upper East and North East Regions, where similar community interactions, stakeholder consultations, and party meetings are scheduled. This northern phase of his tour is expected to strengthen his connection with grassroots supporters as he continues to position himself as a leading figure in the NPP’s future political direction.

The Wa turnout demonstrates that Dr. Bawumia continues to enjoy significant support across northern Ghana, making this tour an important moment in shaping public sentiment ahead of the party’s next phase of political activities.
