Yamfo chiefs reject College of Health Principals transfer warn of consequences

Chiefs and community leaders in Yamfo, Ahafo Region, have rejected the transfer of the Director of the College of Health (COH), expressing deep concern about potential negative consequences for the institution’s progress. The displeasure comes after the Ministry of Health reportedly ordered the reassignment of the school’s principal, prompting protests from students, staff and traditional authorities.
At a press conference, representatives from the traditional council warned that the decision to transfer the leader without community consultation could undermine the achievements the College has recorded under his leadership. Students and staff lauded the Director’s work, pointing out improvements in infrastructure, security, and academic performance since his appointment. They argued that the move could reverse progress and destabilise the learning environment.
Leaders appealed directly to the President and the Minister of Health to intervene and reverse the order. They emphasised the importance of institutional stability, especially in healthcare education, where consistency in leadership is critical for training professionals who will serve vulnerable communities. The chiefs signalled potential civil action if their demands are ignored, underlining the seriousness with which they regard the transfer.
For many in Yamfo and surrounding areas, the College of Health serves as a key educational institution and source of healthcare manpower. Its disruption could impact not only students but the broader community’s access to medical services in the near future. Stakeholders argue that educational leadership transfer should follow extensive stakeholder engagement to avoid compromising trust and institutional memory.
The incident raises broader questions about policy-making processes when it comes to education and healthcare institutions, especially in rural regions. As pressure mounts, all eyes are on national authorities and whether they will heed local concerns or proceed with the reassignment.
