Kumawu MP donates farming tools ahead of Farmers’ Day celebration

Hon Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament for Kumawu constituency in the Ashanti Region, has contributed a set of farming tools to support the upcoming Farmers’ Day celebrations in the area. The donation included wellington boots, cutlasses, and knapsack sprayers — items that are critical for smallholder farmers’ daily agricultural work.

The donation took place during a meeting between the MP and the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere-Kumawu, Mr Kwasi Amankwa. According to the report, the MP emphasised the need to support local farmers so as to improve food production, income generation, and general livelihoods in the constituency.

Beyond the immediate donation, Mr Anim and the DCE held discussions to strengthen collaboration between the district assembly and constituency leadership, with a view to aligning development interventions, identifying community needs, and ensuring sustainable growth in infrastructure, social services, and agricultural support across the area.

In response, the DCE expressed gratitude for the contribution, highlighting the importance of such support for rural communities, especially as Ghana celebrates Farmers’ Day, a national event meant to honour the country’s farmers and rural producers. He added that pooled efforts of elected representatives and local governance structures are essential to elevating living conditions and agricultural productivity in the district.

The contribution by the Kumawu MP is part of a broader wave of support from public officials and private stakeholders ahead of the 2025 Farmers’ Day celebrations, as Ghana continues to emphasise agriculture’s role in national food security and rural economic development.

For many farmers in Kumawu, the provision of sprayers, boots, and cutlasses could lower their costs and improve their capacity to farm more efficiently. Analysts and community leaders believe that such gestures when combined with structural support like access to markets, extension services, and good roads can meaningfully boost production and encourage youth participation in agriculture. As the December 5 Farmers’ Day approaches, the donation stands as a timely reminder of the government’s and local representatives’ commitment to grassroots development and the livelihoods of Ghana’s rural communities.
