One Confirmed Dead After Tragic Accident at Adansi Akrokerri Junction, GNFS Reports

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed that one person has died following a fatal road accident at the Adansi Akrokerri junction. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the day, involved a collision between a commercial vehicle and a private car, resulting in severe damage and trapping some occupants.

According to emergency responders, the GNFS rescue team from the Obuasi Fire Station arrived at the scene shortly after receiving a distress call. Upon arrival, they found the two vehicles badly mangled, with passengers in need of urgent medical assistance. Fire officers used extrication tools to retrieve the trapped individuals from the wreckage.

Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased, a male adult, sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead after being removed from the vehicle. Other victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, with varying degrees of injury. The GNFS added that further details about the victims will be released after their families have been notified.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, noting that the collision resulted in temporary traffic buildup along the route. Many residents near the junction expressed concern about road safety in the area, calling for improved traffic signage and stricter speed regulation.

The GNFS used the opportunity to remind drivers to adhere strictly to road safety rules, emphasizing that speeding, wrongful overtaking, and fatigue remain major causes of road accidents across the country. The service highlighted that many road crashes occur at intersections where visibility is reduced or drivers fail to comply with traffic signals.

In its statement, the GNFS commended its rescue personnel for their swift response and professionalism. The Service emphasized that continuous public education, enforcement of road regulations, and improved driver discipline are urgently needed to reduce the rising number of fatalities on Ghana’s roads.

The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has since begun investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident. Officers have started taking witness statements and assessing the crash scene for clues related to speeding, mechanical failure, or possible negligence.

Residents of Adansi Akrokerri stated that the junction has recorded several accidents in recent years. They appealed to authorities to evaluate the stretch and implement preventive measures, including widening the road, installing reflectors, constructing speed ramps, or assigning traffic officers during high-risk hours.

Road safety advocates also weighed in, stressing that Ghana must intensify its national response to road accidents, which continue to claim hundreds of lives annually. They called for improved driver training, stricter enforcement of transport laws, and the modernization of road infrastructure.

The GNFS extended condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. The Service also reiterated its commitment to saving lives and urged the public to cooperate with safety institutions to minimize road tragedies.

As investigations continue, authorities are expected to release additional updates, including the identities of the victims and recommendations for preventing similar incidents in the future.
