President Mahama pays emotional tribute to Konadu Agyeman Rawlings at memorial event
President John Mahama has paid a deeply emotional tribute to the late Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, describing her as a woman whose influence, courage and public service shaped Ghana’s political development for more than four decades. Speaking at a memorial event attended by family members, government officials and supporters, Mahama stated that the nation has lost an extraordinary figure whose contributions cannot be forgotten.
He reflected on her long journey in national service, where she consistently advocated for the rights of women, the protection of vulnerable groups and the advancement of social justice. Mahama praised her leadership in the 31st December Women’s Movement, an organisation that played a significant role in creating opportunities for women through education, vocational training and civic engagement.
According to him, Konadu Agyeman Rawlings was more than a political figure. She was a builder of communities and a woman who believed in the potential of every Ghanaian child. Mahama emphasised that even after leaving public office, she continued to champion social welfare initiatives and remained active in national conversations.
Her determination, he said, was unmatched. She campaigned for improved healthcare, better access to education and the empowerment of women across rural communities. Mahama recounted her strength during difficult periods in national politics, noting that she remained firm even when faced with public criticism or political opposition.
