Finance minister says 2026 budget targets growth, welfare, and opportunities for all

The Minister for Finance has outlined the central focus of the 2026 Budget, describing it as a people centered plan that aims to expand opportunities, reduce economic pressure on households, and strengthen long term national growth. The announcement followed intense public interest in how the budget would respond to economic challenges faced by families and businesses across the country.
According to the Minister, the government has allocated more than 1.1 billion cedis to key social intervention programmes. These include the LEAP social protection scheme and new initiatives designed to support the creative arts industry. The objective is to ensure that vulnerable citizens receive consistent support while sectors with potential for job creation receive the needed boost to expand.
He explained that the budget reflects a balance between stimulating economic activity and maintaining financial stability. One of the government’s goals is to provide relief to low and middle income households that have been affected by rising costs of living. By strengthening social intervention mechanisms, the budget seeks to ensure that no segment of the population is left behind.
The Minister noted that investment in the creative arts forms part of the government’s broader strategy to diversify the economy. With many young people involved in music, film, fashion, and digital content production, targeted financial support is expected to create employment and improve international representation of Ghanaian talent.
He also highlighted the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, including roads, educational facilities, and health systems. According to him, development in these areas will support business growth and ensure that communities across the country benefit from improved public services.
In addition, the budget prioritizes fiscal discipline aimed at reducing deficits and attracting new investment. The Minister stated that Ghana’s economic future depends on responsible management of public funds and strategic prioritization of spending. He emphasized that the 2026 Budget is not only about short term relief but also about creating a foundation for sustained national prosperity.
He encouraged the public to support government policies that aim to expand opportunities and improve living standards. He assured citizens that the Ministry of Finance will continue engaging stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability throughout implementation.
The Minister concluded by expressing confidence that the 2026 Budget will deliver meaningful improvements in the lives of Ghanaians and strengthen the country’s economic resilience.
