The Public Services Commission has officially confirmed Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong as the substantive Chief Fire Officer of Ghana’s Fire Service. Ms Ntow Sarpong brings to the position a record of leadership experience, commitment to public service and a clear vision for modernizing the fire service. In accepting the role she pledged to enhance readiness, improve response times and build stronger community-based fire prevention programmes across urban and rural areas.

The new Chief Fire Officer has indicated that her priorities include upgrading fire-fighting equipment rolling out enhanced training for personnel and introducing modern emergency response protocols that meet international standards. She also aims to foster community awareness campaigns on fire safety and prevention so that citizens play an active role in protecting lives and property.

Advocates for gender inclusion in security and public service called the confirmation a milestone. They noted that Ms Ntow Sarpong’s appointment reflects growing recognition of competence and leadership over traditional gender norms in national agencies. They believe that her leadership may inspire more women to enter public safety and emergency management fields.

Fire safety experts welcomed the decision, saying that committed leadership is essential to addressing urban fire risks, inadequate infrastructure and climate-related emergency challenges. They emphasised that effective fire services must combine operational capacity with community engagement and public education.

For many citizens the appointment offers hope for improved fire protection services during emergencies. With growing urbanisation, recent successes in controlling fire outbreaks and timely rescue operations under her stewardship could build public trust in the Fire Service.
