Family of Late MP organizes a One-Week Celebration

The family of the late Ernest Yaw Kumi, Member of Parliament for Akwatia, has announced that his one-week celebration will take place on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Akyem Wenchi Funeral Grounds in the Eastern Region. The ceremony will begin at 7:00 a.m.

The event, themed “My Hero Lives On”, will serve as an opportunity for family, friends, political allies, and constituents to pay tribute to the young legislator, whose sudden death shocked the nation. Dignitaries from across the political divide, government officials, and members of the Akwatia community are expected to be in attendance.

Mr. Kumi passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the age of 40, after a brief illness. His death occurred less than a year into his first term as MP for Akwatia, a seat he won in the 2024 general elections on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Known for his hands-on approach to constituency development and youth empowerment initiatives, Ernest Yaw Kumi was regarded as a rising star in Ghanaian politics. He is survived by his wife and children, who, along with his extended family, are preparing to receive mourners and well-wishers at the one-week celebration.
