Gov’t Increases Cocoa Producer Price by Over 62% for 2025/2026 Season

In a vital boost for cocoa farmers across the country, the Government of Ghana has announced a 62.58% increase in the cocoa producer price for the 2025/2026 crop season. The price has been raised from US$3,100 to US$5,040 per tonne, following the recommendations of the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC).

A Fulfilment of a Presidential Promise

This move reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring fair compensation for cocoa farmers and fulfills a key pledge made by President John Dramani Mahama. The new price represents 70% of the Free-On-Board (FOB) value, in line with international best practices and the government’s drive to make cocoa farming more profitable.

President Mahama emphasized that farmers are the backbone of Ghana’s economy and deserve equitable returns for their contribution to national development. The increase is expected to improve livelihoods, boost rural incomes, and further incentivize productivity in the cocoa sector.

Farmer Impact and Sector Outlook

Ghana is the second-largest producer of cocoa in the world, and the crop remains a major export earner and employment source. The new price adjustment is expected to attract more investment into cocoa farming and help farmers cover increasing costs of production amid global inflation and climate-related challenges.

The PPRC, which includes stakeholders from COCOBOD, farmer groups, and financial institutions, arrived at the new price after reviewing global market trends, input costs, and the country’s long-term sustainability goals.
