President Mahama announces plans to build six modern sports stadia

During a stop in the Western North Region as part of his ongoing “Thank You Tour,” President Mahama made the bold announcement, emphasizing the urgent need to decentralize sports infrastructure and promote inclusivity.
According to the president, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation has already begun spearheading the design and planning phases for the new facilities, with a strategic focus on regions that currently lack modern sports infrastructure.
“Under the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, modern sports stadia will be built in the six newly created regions, as well as in other regions that currently lack such infrastructure,” he stated while addressing enthusiastic local leaders and community members.
Sports stadia – The proposed stadiums are expected to serve as catalysts for local development, nurturing young talent, and promoting national unity through sports. The regions earmarked for this transformational project include Western North, Oti, North East, Bono East, Savannah, and Ahafo all of which were carved out through a national referendum aimed at improving governance and ensuring equitable development.
President Mahama stressed that the initiative goes beyond sports, aiming to create job opportunities, boost local economies, and uplift underserved communities through modern infrastructure.
This announcement has been met with widespread optimism, particularly among residents of the newly created regions who have long yearned for equal access to state-of-the-art sports facilities.
