GAF and sister security agencies to hold joint show of force in Accra ahead of festive season

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), together with several sister security agencies, will on Thursday 11 December 2025 conduct a coordinated Joint Show of Force Exercise in Accra as part of nationwide security preparations for the upcoming festive period.

Participating agencies include the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, the Customs Division of the Excise, Preventive and Immigration Services, and the Immigration Service. The exercise will begin at Black Star Square at 9:00 a.m. and traverse major streets before returning to the same venue.

Authorities say the exercise aims to enhance inter-agency coordination, boost operational readiness, deter criminal activity, and reassure the public of the state’s preparedness to maintain peace and stability, especially during a period when security concerns typically rise.

Officials have noted that residents may witness increased security presence and some traffic slowdowns in parts of Greater Accra during the operation, but they assured the public that the exercise is part of routine national security maintenance and urged calm.

Security analysts welcome the move, saying it is timely and necessary given recent national security challenges including rising illicit activity, threats to public safety, and increased need for collaboration among security agencies. They believe the show of force will serve as both deterrence and reassurance to citizens, while strengthening agency cooperation.

As Ghana heads into the end-of-year holidays, the exercise is viewed as a proactive attempt to deter crime, counter security threats and uphold public trust in the country’s security architecture. Citizens are urged to cooperate, follow official guidance, and maintain vigilance for suspicious activity.
