Petrol Price to Rise Slightly as Diesel and LPG Drop from August 1

Petrol price Ghana August 2025. The price of petrol is set to rise marginally starting August 1, 2025, bringing mixed news for motorists and households across Ghana. Meanwhile, consumers can expect some relief at the pumps, as diesel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices are projected to decline slightly.

This development is outlined in the latest fuel pricing outlook from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), which guides fuel price trends for Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) nationwide.

Projected Pump Prices for August

Based on the report, petrol prices are expected to climb 0.47%, reaching GH¢2.80 per litre at the pumps.

In contrast, diesel and LPG prices are forecast to decrease by up to 0.29% per litre, offering a bit of cushion to both commercial and domestic fuel users.

Some OMCs, however, have indicated to Joy Business that they may maintain existing prices for selected products despite the new pricing window.

What’s Behind the Change?

COMAC attributes this mixed pricing outcome to a combination of stable global crude oil prices and a steady Ghana cedi. These two factors have kept major cost drivers in check, leading to only marginal changes in retail prices.

Market Indicators and Global Trends

The COMAC report notes that international crude oil prices dropped slightly by 0.28%, settling around US$70.62 per barrel. However, the prices of finished petroleum products on the global market showed varying trends:

Petrol prices rose by 0.43%

Diesel prices dropped by 1.22%

LPG prices saw the steepest decline, down by 1.80%

These global trends are directly influencing local pump prices, though OMCs may apply their own pricing strategies based on competition and internal cost structures.

As Ghanaians prepare for a new pricing window, this update brings a mix of mild concern and cautious optimism especially for households that rely heavily on LPG and public transport operators who depend on diesel.
