Gov’t Extends Operating Hours at Kumasi and Tamale Airports to Boost Domestic Travel

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) have announced the extension of operating hours at Kumasi’s Prempeh I International Airport and Tamale International Airport, effective June 1, 2025.
Extended Hours for Greater Accessibility
Under the new schedule, Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi will now operate until 11:00 PM, extending from its previous 8:00 PM closure. Similarly, Tamale International Airport will stay open until 10:00 PM instead of the earlier 6:00 PM closing time.
This change is designed to offer greater convenience to travelers, especially business professionals and traders who require more flexible flight options between Ghana’s northern and southern corridors.

Airlines Encouraged to Adjust Schedules
The GCAA has issued a formal Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to notify all domestic carriers of the updated operating hours. Airlines are being encouraged to adjust their flight schedules accordingly and increase frequency to both airports. This move is expected to improve access and reliability for passengers commuting across regions.
Enhancing Regional Connectivity
Extending the operating hours forms part of a larger national plan to decentralize aviation services and support regional growth. It will help facilitate same-day travel for business and leisure purposes while reducing the need for layovers in Accra. Ultimately, this initiative aims to stimulate local economies in the Ashanti and Northern Regions.

Travelers are advised to take note of the new operating hours as Ghana works toward a more integrated and efficient domestic aviation network.
